What a load of rubbish!
As part of our 'Why is the Earth Angry?' topic, we have learned about the effect of litter pollution on the planet. We watched a clip from The Blue Planet 2 about the amount of plastic that is littering our seas and the damaging effect it is having on ocean wildlife. This struck concern with everyone in our class and we felt quite saddened about the effect of pollution. Therefore, we decided to use the 'rubbish' that would have been thrown away and turn it into a sea animal. We had a fantastic afternoon but more importantly, we decided that we are all going to try and be more thoughtful about what we throw away.
Thank you to everyone who contributed and sent in their 'junk'.
On Monday, we had a fantastic time visitig the Magna Science Museum for the day. We took part in an exciting workshop about volcanoes and rocks and were even able to make our own volcanoes! We then spent a lot of time exploring the 4 pavilions; Earth, Water, Fire and Air. Overall, we had a wonderful day, despite the freezing temperature! Please take some time to scroll through the pictures that Class 3 took.
In ICT, we thought it would be a great idea to play on Minecraft, however, when we started to play, we noticed that our characters couldn't pick up any items. This meant that we had to put on our coding hats and fix Minecraft! It was tricky to begin with tounderstand how to use the command buttons, but once we got into the flow of it, we had lots of fun! (Possibly more fun than actually playing the game.)
In our art lessons, we have been creating pastel pictures of volcanoes. But, to make them stand out, we used alternative colours for lava. We tried to layer up the colours to create different shades and tones. Once we had finished our pictures, we used different arrt mediums and created a collage of our picture. Please enjoy having a scroll through some examples.
This term our topic is centred on the question 'Why is the Earth Angry?'
Within this topic, we are investigating the different ways that humans are upsetting the Earth.
Our first focus will be on volcanoes and whether they are a sign that the Earth is angry, or whether they are a natural occurrence. We will also be learning about the importance of the rainforest and the devastating effect of deforestation and the reasons behind it.
In addition to this, we will be thinking about the various types of pollution and how we can minimise our impact on the planet both through litter and chemicals.
During our Literacy lessons, we will be studying the book ‘Escape from Pompeii’ and we will be rewriting the story from the point of view of a different character.
We will also be writing emotively to persuade people to think about the use of water around the world.
In maths, we will be focusing on Multiplication and Division before half term, then Fractions and Decimals and Shape after half term.
In PE, we will be covering gymnastics and dance. Our dance lessons will be linked to our ‘Angry Earth’ topic.
Our science topics this term are ‘States of Matter’ and ‘Living Things and their Habitats’. We are also taking a trip to Magna to take part in a Volcanoes and Rocks workshop.
Finally, this term we will be putting on a class performance of ‘The Big Green Adventure’ which we are all excited to start practising!
Thank you again for your continued support with all of the home learning that you are doing.
