World Book Day.

Class 2 read their stories to Class 1 on World Book Day.

Our amazing castles.

Class 2 visit Lincoln Castle.

Medieval Day

We had great fun on our Medieval day. We made funny faces and took photos of each other on the ipads. We then used the images to make our own gargoyle faces out of gingerbread. They tasted delicious. We investigated Grasby Church and then drew some of the features in our sketch books. In the afternoon, we made collages of people wearing Medieval clothing and then we had a Medieval banquet.

Drawings in the style of the Bayeaux Tapestry

The Bayeaux Tapestry tells the story of the Norman Invasion of England in 1066 and the Battle of Hastings. We created drawings in the style of the tapestry to retell parts of the story.

Spring Term

Our topic this term is Red, White and Blue. The essential Learning Question is What makes Great Britain great?

We will be learning about Great Britain with a history focus of Kings, Queens and Castles. We will visit Lincoln Castle and learn about castles built after the Norman Invasion in 1066. We will learn about the importance of the Bayeaux Tapestry and create drawings in a similar style.

In Literacy we are looking at non fiction books and will be writing our own non fiction texts about castles and knights. We will create an information page about Motte and Bailey castles. We will learn about Queen Elizabeth and compare her life to that of Medieval royalty.

In maths, we are learning about time and will then move on to place value (y1), graphs (y2) and then on to money. After half term we will be learning about fractions, multiplication and division, length and height.

In Science, we will be looking at materials and British inventors such as Charles Macintosh. We will move on to Plants after half term.

RE this term is celebrations for Jewish people and then celebrations for Christians after half term.

Children are encouraged to bring in photographs, books or souvenirs from castles they have visited to share with the class.

Problem solving with numicon

Each line has to total 10. How many ways can you do it?

The Three Billy Goats Gruff

We experimented with building rafts for the Three Billy Goats Gruff to cross the stream. We worked in teams to build a sturdy raft that would float and hold three billy goats. We could choose from a range of materials. We had a great afternoon planning, building and adapting our rafts.

The Great Fire of London

We experimented with colour mixing red and yellow powder paint to make our Great Fire of London pictures. We drew and cut out silhouettes of buildings and added them to the picture once the paint had dried.

The Little Red Hen

Class 2 had great fun making bread rolls just like the Little Red Hen. We had to follow the recipe very carefully. They tasted delicious!

Autumn

Our topic this term is Once Upon a Time.

In Literacy we will be reading Traditional Tales and looking at different characters and their behaviour in these stories. We will be writing our own stories and making these into books to read to the reception children. In Science we are looking at materials and their properties and moving on to animals including humans after half term. In maths our focus is place value, addition and subtraction, multiplication and division and shape. We will be linking other curriculum areas in with our topic.

PE days are Tuesday and Wednesday. We are very pleased to have a sports coach in school this term to teach us football skills.
